Happy Mothers Day!!

I want to wish everyone a very happy Mother's Day!
I also wanted to share a few of my favorite pictures.

Me, Tish, Ashton, Erik and my grandmother Madge in FL.
Me and Ashton at Kure beach NC.Me and Tish at her wedding in FL.Me and Erik in FL.
I can't believe it has been just over a year since we have all been together. Tish and her husband Dan live in Pensacola, FL, Erik and Ashton live here in NC with me and my grandmother lives in TN. So as you can guess it is very difficult to get everyone on the same schedule for a visit but we are trying to plan a surprise visit to my grandmothers soon. Ashton leaves in just over a month when school is out to visit her dad who is currently stationed in Italy. She is excited to see him of course but not so sure about leaving for the whole summer. She and I have never spent more than 3 weeks apart and that was very hard for both of us. I keep telling her that once she gets there she'll be so busy that she'll get over being homesick and that we will of course talk often.
Hopefully we can bring my grandmother here for a visit this summer. She and I are very close, she is like a mother to me and we haven't missed a Sunday talking on the phone since I moved from Tn in 1989. We also talk every Tuesday, so I guess you can say we're very close. She means the world to me, she has always been there for me for all the highs and lows that life has thrown my way. She is my rock.
Ok, enough for now. I didn't intend to be so wordy. I hope everyone has a blessed and happy mother's day and please remember to say a prayer for the moms who are currently deployed and serving our country and can't be home with their children.
Till next time,
Kimberly : )

Birthdays, softball and making new friends!!

It has been a busy week around our house.
My stepson Jason turned 10 last Thursday. We didn't get to visit with him for very long because it was a school night but we did get to have pizza, Transformers b-day cake and give him his gifts before he had to get back home. My other stepson Benjamin turned 20 on Sunday, more cake and gifts before he headed off for a birthday dinner with his mom, brother and sister.  I had a great treat on Saturday at Country Comes to Town. Linda from Behind My Red Door and her super sweet friend Jill stopped by for a visit. I really enjoyed meeting them and look forward to seeing them again in November. This week has been we've been busy with softball. Ashton plays on JV and Varsity so we've been spending a lot of time at the ball field and eating ballpark food for dinner, I'm sure there's a few of you out there that understand what I'm talking about. Her varsity team won their last conference game last night so playoffs start next week. I have had a bit of time for stitching though. I made Linda and Jill  pillows in the new Taylors Farmhouse Attic pattern " Spring Tyme".  I love Jennifer's patterns. Now I gotta make one for myself. I also got my new runner in the mail on Monday from Karen at KM Primitives, I can't wait to share a picture of that with you but I'm saving that for my next post because I'm still tweaking that spot.
Till next time,

Wow! I promise not to make a habit of  doing two posts a day! But I couldn't help myself this time. I wanted to show everyone my "Spring Thyme" x-stitch  from Simple Goodes Stitched by Jennifer. I finished a couple weeks ago but took a while to get it tea stained and find the right frame. I found this one at Hobby Lobby unfinished for 30% off. I painted it midnight blue and distressed it but it looks black in the picture.  I loved the post Jen did showing that her sister, Heather, did hers with a red bird and since that is my husbands favorite bird I decided to do mine that way. I love how it turned out. I found the basket hanging above the x-stitch at Salvation Army for only .59 cents. I've already ordered Jen's new patterns and am working on those now. It has been another busy off day. The usual stops at the local thrift shops, Aldi, JoAnn's to get Ashton these cute zebra print ankle socks, Hobby Lobby for my frame, Food Lion to order my stepson Jason's transformer birthday cake (he turns ten tomorrow), oil for the truck and now home to finish laundry, house cleaning. Whew, no time to rest. It will soon be time to pick Ashton up at school take her for a quick bit to eat then back to school at six for her softball game. Tuesday's off are always like this it seems and Sunday's off are spent with the family and relaxing. I wouldn't have it any other way. Oops! I think the dryer just shut off, time to get back to the housework!

Harley and Baby

As promised, pictures of Harley and Baby. Baby has been with us since February of 2008. We adopted her when she was only 2 months old from a lady who had recently lost her husband and didn't feel she could care for 2 dogs at that time. When we walked into the sun room and sat down Baby immediately ran over to Christopher and gave him puppy kisses and we knew she was the puppy for us. I have to admit she is a bit, okay a LOT spoiled and we spell d-o-g because I don't think she knows she is one. Last summer she was attacked by a much larger dog who broke free from it's owner while we were out for a walk. Thankfully we keep her collar loose and she pulled out of it but not before the larger dog pinned her down. She was bleeding from her neck and one of her front legs and very sore. It took weeks for her to heal and many more weeks before she would go on the walks with us that she had always loved so much. Christopher and I always joked that we weren't sure if we were walking her or if she was walking us.  So Christopher felt Baby needed a companion, I wasn't so convinced. I mean two dogs? Really? Well fate intervened, My best friend Melissa had a friend who had a 3 1/2 lb Chiuaua that she had to get rid of because her new rental didn't allow pets. She brought him to my work to meet me and I instantly knew he was the companion for Baby. She liked him and wanted to play the instant she saw him, he wasn't sure of her. She's just over two and very playful, he's eight and wants to lay around most of the time. Harley has been part of the family now since July of last year and he and Baby go nuts if they are not together. Even now they are lying on the bed behind me making cute sleeping puppy noises completely burrowed in the quilt I have there for them.

Another post for today!

I wanted to share my good finds from Salvation Army. I stopped in on my lunch break (it's only a hop, skip and jump away) and look what goodies I found for only $9. I also got a bunny that I want to prim up but I forgot to include her in the photo. Most of these pieces will be sold but I think I'll keep a couple things for me. I always buy things with intentions of consigning them but I usually keep a piece or two. I can't help myself. I love the cookie jar even though there is no lid but I thought it would be great filled with wooden spoons and rolling pins. There's also and old atlas jar filled with gingerbread men and potpourri, I'm definitely keeping that one.
I also wanted to show a couple pictures of my potted petunias and REAL geraniums. I potted them last Sunday and hope to do a few more in the next few weeks. I love bright flowers.
I hope everyone had a great Saturday. I'm off to see if Christopher wants to take Baby and Harley for a quick walk around the neighborhood.
Till next time,

Good Saturday morning blogging friends!!

I thought I would post the picture I accidentallly deleted from my last post of the Americana mache boxes I painted for consignment at Country Comes to Town. They look better in person than in the picture, the color didn't turn out too well. But still, I'm proud of them. After seeing all the tweaking you gals were doing over the past couple of days I decided to do a tad bit when I got home from work last night. The crock on the bookcase and the basket on the peg shelf have been empty for quite some time because I couldn't decide what to put in them but after seeing Karen's post from My Colonial Home about the geraniums she found at JoAnn's fabric store I decided to stop in on my way to work and pick up a couple. I love how realistic they look. Linda, Melissa and Karen from work were heading there after work yesterday to also grab some while they're on sale. I posted two pictures of the shelf because I couldn't decide which one I liked better, the dark one or the bright one.
Well, that's it for now, I'm off to get ready for work. I gotta go to Food Lion to get weekend snacks for Ashton, drop those back here at home, stop by Michael's or Hobby Lobby for some floss, grab a latte then head to work. And all that before 10am! I better get moving!
Till next time,

I can't believe it's taken me so long to post new pictures. I had a picture of the Americana boxes I did for consignment for Country Comes to Town but I somehow managed to delete that picture. I've done that before, I keep hitting the wrong button so I'll have to put that one on here later. I just wanted to share some of the x-stitch books I found at a couple of local second hand stores over the past couple of weeks. I got all of the ones in the first picture for less than $30, there's about 40 of them. I've also won a few on ebay so I think I'm gonna be stitching for quite some time. I also included a couple pictures of some Beaumont pottery I won on ebay. I think I'm addicted to ebay. I always tell myself I'm only gonna check a couple of things on there and the next thing I know it's hours later. I've also been busy painting, stitching, crafting and cleaning in my spare time. I usually try to post on Sunday's and Tuesday's as those are my days off from work. But this past Tuesday I was busy with visits to the grocery store, book store, thrift stores (no goodies that trip) doctor appointments and Ashton also had  jv and varsity softball games. Whew! So, needless to say,I had to come back to work on Wednesday so I could rest. Lol!
Saturday at Country Comes to Town was busy, busy. Which is a good thing, the day just flew by. Sherrie from SC stopped in, we had a great visit with her. And what a small world, she knows Jen Taylors farmhouse attic, Karen km primitives and Ms. Linda behind my red door who has been in our store in the past. Hopefully she will make it in to Country Comes to Town, also know as Carolina Window Fashions, I would love to meet her. Also, to those of you who are encouraging Sherrie to start a blog, please continue to do so. I told her that if I could do it anyone can. And that all you wonderful ladies are always so helpful when someone runs into a road block. Okay, enough jabbering for now, back to work. I'll have more to post later. I hope everyone is having a safe and blessed day.

Homerules have special meaning

I love this Primitive Stitchin' freebie pattern! It can be found over at patternmart.com.I love this homerules x-stitch. It was stitched by Christopher's mom who died of cancer several years before we met. About a month ago we were cleaning through storage and came across a large tote of her crafts that he had saved and given to me when we got married. This was one of many things I found. I tea stained it a bit and put in on one of my favorite pieces of blue homespun fabric, framed it and hung it next to our front door. I can't wait to get that box out again. It is full of yarn, x-stitch patterns and kits and lots of other goodies.
  1. If you sleep on it make it up.
  2. If you wear it hang it up.
  3. If you drop it pick it up.
  4. If you eat from it put it up.
  5. If you step on it wipe it off.
  6. If you open it close it.
  7. If you empty it fill it up.
  8. If it rings answer it.
  9. If it howls feed it.
  10. If it cries love it.

TGIF!!

Also, while I'm thinking of it, does anyone have the recipe for making blackened beeswax pantry cakes. I have seen them on a few blogs and I love how prim they look but my google search wasn't very helpful. And I'm also looking for a x-stitch book I seem to have misplaced. I can't remember the name of the company but the cover is a x-stitch pattern of a woman with white hair and glassed sitting in a chair stitching a quilt. If anyone has ideas of where to look for this book please let me know. That's about it for now, off to grab a Starbucks then to work.
Till next time,

Busy Tuesday and finished stitches!!

Can you believe I finally finished my Blackbird Design x-stitch?? I must say it went much faster once I bought reading glasses. I've also been working on a couple freebies from the primitive betty blog, a spring freebie from primitive stitchin and I'm almost finished with the Spring Thyme stitchery from Jen (taylors farmhouse attic). Plus I've purchased so many patterns on line that I think I'm gonna be busy for quite some time. I had a visitor from the lake while I was painting the frame for my x-stitch. He was about 3 foot away from me before I realized I had company. I think he was hoping for a snack, my husband feeds him left over cinnamon rolls. I've also been busy visiting the local thrift shops. I got all these items on three different trips. Some things I will keep for myself, like the dishes, the picture (which I've repainted but haven't hung) definately the wood bowl and little baskets. Everything else will probably go to Country Comes To Town on consignment. And can you believe I got all of it for $20.00?  Not bad huh? The little cabinet was a previous ts find for $2.99 that I painted black and the little pottery pieces followed me home from work. Linda and Melissa found them on one of their shopping trips for the store and I just had to have them. They were perfect for my cabinet. And FINALLY, I bought myself a new sewing machine. Nothing fancy, just something basic. A couple years ago, in a moment of temporary insanity, I got rid of my singer as well as lot of craft supplies thinking I would never use them again. Can you believe that? Never craft or sew again? Really?  Thankfully I saw the light and came back to my sences and have jumped head first back into all my favorite hobbies.
Well that's about all for now, the kids are on spring break this week, so Ashton and I are off to Kohl's, the mall, dropping off movies and picking up one of her friends for a sleep over.
Till next time,

Happy Easter to all my blogging friends: )!!

I hope everyone is having a great Easter holiday. We have had a blessed day. We cooked a great meal and Christopher's kids Sabrina and Jason got to come over for a couple of days so we are enjoying our visit with them. I've been busy x-stitching and it's going much faster now that I have a pair of reading glasses. I'll have quite a few pictures to post later this week, here as well as on the Country Comes To Town blog.
God Bless,
Till next time,

CS pictures and what I'm determined to finish!!

I was so excited to get the new CS at Country Comes To Town yesterday and get a couple of pictures posted in between helping customers that I forgot to take pictures of Jen's article until I got home. Her home is soooo perfectly prim! It's a great issue, so grab a cup of coffee or tea and sit back and read all about Jen and her home. This issue makes me want to do some redecorating at home.
I'm blessed because that's what I do for a living. I work at a store here in Fayetteville, NC called Carolina Window Fashions/ Country Comes To Town. We sell custom made blinds, shutters and window treatments but best of all we have over 6000 sq ft of antiques, primitives and reproductions. We have things arriving daily so our displays are always changing. A simple crock collection or pie safe is reason enough to completely redo a display. And on occasion certain pieces that I form an attachment to follow me home.
Now here is a x-stitch that I am determined to finish. I'm embarrassed to say that I purchased the pattern at Hobby Lobby about 5 years ago, started it, packed it up for storage due to a move and completely forgot it till recently. Just let me say that my eyes aren't what they were 5 years ago, but finish it I will.
Whew, sorry to be long winded. I hope everyone is having a fun and safe weekend.
Till next time,
God bless,
Kimberly: )
